This was one of two pieces of 9th and Commercial. I just love painting that intersection. It looks so ordinary at first glance. But the textures, patterns and shapes are quietly poetic to me. These pieces became the very center of what I wanted to do with my urban nocturns—the sense of temporary silence. Stillness. Abated frenzy. Concrete cooled after sundown. (Sounds like a Jeff Tweedy song.)
 
This is one of the few pieces I feel a little covetous about. Usually, I’m only focuses on the process of painting. The artifacts of that process are for you, not me. But I lived with this one a little while and really enjoyed it.
